GIG Europe SA and Aziende Industriali di Lugano (AIL) SA
have signed a cooperation agreement for the development of BESS projects in Switzerland.
BESS, or Battery Energy Storage Systems, are key infrastructures for supporting grid stability, enabling more effective integration of renewable energy sources and strengthening security of supply.
The first project will be developed in Manno and will have a power output of 5 MW, with a storage capacity of 10 MWh. It represents the first step in a broader pipeline that includes further projects already under development both in the Canton of Ticino and in other Swiss cantons.
The initiative is part of the programme promoted by Swiss Energy Program, with the aim of contributing to the development of practical, flexible energy solutions aligned with the needs of Switzerland’s energy transition.
The collaboration between GIG Europe SA and AIL SA brings together industrial expertise, strong local roots and a long-term vision, with a focus on infrastructure capable of creating value for the electricity grid, local communities and the country as a whole.
